How do I begin the custom design process?

Start by filling in the custom design form here, or contact me to arrange a meeting in person.

Initially we will discuss design ideas, gemstones, and metals. Following this we can talk about budget and I’ll be able to give you an estimated price.

If you’re unsure at any stage that’s not a problem at all, I’ll be there to help guide you along in the process.

How long does it take to have a custom design made?

Please allow a minimum of eight weeks for any custom design work. Depending on the design, materials, and my timetable, the whole process can take up to 16 weeks.

If you need your piece by a specific date please let me know, I’ll try my best to work within your timeframe.

If you need a rush on an urgent order this may be possible. Please contact me to see if I am able to accommodate you. There will be an extra fee for these orders.

How much will it cost?

The cost of custom designs start at $500 in silver, and $1000 in gold. Prices can vary greatly depending on the design, size, and materials used in a piece.

If you are interested in a simple modification to an existing design (i.e different gemstone or different coloured metal), then I can make a similar custom piece at a more cost effective price.

Do you work with clients outside of Wellington?

Yes, I’m happy to work with clients all over the globe. We can correspond through email, chat on the phone, or meet online over the likes of Zoom or Skype. I will keep you updated with the whole process along the way.

How do I find my correct ring size?

The most accurate way to measure your ring size is to visit a jeweller and have them measure it for you. If you live in Wellington, I can do this for you during our consultation.
If you can’t get your finger sized by a jeweller, you can order an adjustable sizer which I will post out to you.

How do I find the correct ring size for a gift?

If you’re ordering a ring as a gift the best way to guess the correct size is to measure a ring that they already have. You can do this yourself by measuring the internal diameter of the ring and using this chart to work out the size. You can also take the ring to a jeweller to be measured for you. If you live in Wellington, I can do this for you during our consultation.

An estimated guide for standard women’s ring sizes is: Small: size 6 (UK M) Medium: size 7 (UK O) Large: size 8 (UK Q)

If you happen to order the incorrect size ring, I do offer a free resizing service for pieces purchased as gifts. The shipping cost to and from the studio will be the responsibility of the customer.

Can I provide my own gemstones and metal?

This is assessed on an individual basis. I will need to inspect any gemstones in person to see if they are suitable for use. For some projects I will be able to work with your old gold. However, for certain pieces I may not be able to re-purpose customers’ old silver or gold as these can contain unknown metals and solders, which may potentially compromise the integrity of the metal when mixed with my own alloy.

Can I change or cancel my custom order?

Custom pieces are designed and made just for you, they cannot be cancelled after the deposit is paid. Following the initial consultation, and after an order is agreed upon, a 50% deposit will be required before work on the piece begins. This deposit is non-refundable.

Large changes to custom designs cannot be made once work on the piece has begun. During the design process you’re welcome to make any changes you wish. After this, changes may be possible, though will potentially incur an extra fee. If you wish to make changes at any point, contact me right away and I will let you know if I’m able to accommodate them.

Custom designs can not be returned or exchanged.
